Don Antoliano Toldos is not a household names in most personal music libraries, neither will his name ring a bell. In Spain however, things where totally different for some time! During 1967 & 1972 the man produced a series of high quality singles on his Calandria Label that are best described as soul and jazz influenced grooves. Even four decades after their original release most of these tunes sound fresh! Danceable and always full of joy these jazzy outfits are amongst the best kept secrets from Spain! Opaco by theQuinteto Montelirio is a very fine tune that takes you on an almost 6 minutes during trip! Tom Jazz throws in memories of sixties movie music while the groove on Trompeta Loca performed byConjunto Estif is reminiscent to Ray Charles’ “What I Say”. On Nocturno JazzToldos y su grupo takes a more cool attitude with an ode to the style of Dave Brubeck. A lively Jazz A La Tresreturns to the roots of Jazz music but onFluata Blue you are about to discover a Bossa Nova made in Spain. Closing Down the album is Zaldi a tune that would easily fit on any sixties or seventies sex spoof movie! Brought to you by Vampisoul, hand in hand with senorAntoliano Toldos himself, Iberico Jazz is the ultimate groove-Jazz collection emerging from Spain! The 13 tracks compiled here are quite nice and could be called new to the scene, but they are over 40 years old and age! I really wonder what more Mr Todos has to offer and I secretly do hope for a follow up on this excellent album. Mr Blue Boogie. |
